Online Ukulele Lessons – great success
We have been running online ukulele lessons for children and young people with disabilities and their siblings funded by BBC Children in Need. These are led by Tara Maysey from The London Ukulele Project. Ukuleles are suitable for all ages and fairly easy to strum and learn a few chords and then sing along. The lessons have been a huge success and the children have loved playing and singing along. They loved the friendship and bonding with others and it made them happy to achieve something new, especailly when there were so few activities they could take part in. Parents said,
“These sessions have allowed my child to be part of a group and therefore reduced the isolation, it has given them a purpose to each week with something to focus on and a distraction from not being able to do their usual routine. They have gained confidence in playing even though it was tricky and therefore increasing her resilience.”
“The lessons have been a highlight of the holidays and helped our son become more independent. He had not engaged well with zoom before and always turned the camera off. By the end of this course of lessons he was happy to have the camera on and be totally engaged with the class.”
