Over the last few months we have run Club OK – 3 online groups for young people with learning or other disabilities giving them the opportunity to create music and craft work, following the difficult time of social isolation. Many thanks to OneRichmond, set up by local funders Hampton Fund and Richmond Parish Lands Charity, who funded Club OK from a Grant from the National Lottery Community Fund.
The groups were led by our therapist, Carmem Coles, and helped the young people express themselves and bond with others. For the last session they were able to meet in person. The young people listened to and talked about songs they liked and made their own music using a special computer programme, giving their songs titles like Chilling, Free, and Happy. They used recycled materials to make mats, animals and cards and made up their own stories. The young people loved being able to take part in a creative activity and felt more confident and happy to have made friends. They said,
“Loved connecting with people especially when face to face” “Enjoying, new friends, knowledge and confident”
“I like being encouraged to do things for myself and being listened to”
“OKMT arranges fantastic lessons to keep us motivated even though we go through so many difficulties in real life”
