OKMT launches Neurological Music Therapy group at INS
We are delighted to be able to launch a new project in partnership with Twickenham charity, Integrated Neurological Services (INS) which supports people who have neurological conditions. We will be running weekly music therapy groups at INS for their clients with neurological conditions including Stroke, Parkinson’s and MS. With 4 blocks of small group sessions throughout the year we aim to help around 32 people. As music is processed across different areas of the brain it can help restore functions in undamaged parts of the brain. Neurological music therapy is an evidence based treatment which can help improve cognition, communication and movement. Our aims are to help clients to have improved communication and flow of speech, improved cognition and memory, and improved movement – walking to a beat or playing music can strengthen weakened muscles. We also hope to reduce their isolation and improve their mental well-being as they share music and experiences in a supportive environment. This project has been made possible by an award of £7,500 from Postcode Community Trust, a grant-giving charity funded entirely by players of People’s Postcode Lottery. |
