OKMT 25th Anniversary Appeal
The Otakar Kraus Music Trust is proud to be celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2016. Founded in Twickenham by Margaret and Walter Lobo in 1991, OKMT has grown to help thousands of society’s most vulnerable and excluded people, through the transformative power of music therapy, enabling them to find a better quality of life and reach their full potential. Music transcends verbal and physical barriers, creates a connection and unleashes creativity.
Our work with people with stroke, dementia, mental health problems, learning or neurological disabilities and profound communication difficulties has enabled them to gain confidence, speak, interact and focus. Our projects with children and young people with additional needs such as Music Club and Music School give them the opportunity to make friends, improve communication and gain the confidence to play instruments, perform in public and study for music exams.
We are holding various events throughout the year to celebrate our anniversary. We also want to use this opportunity to thank our many supporters and benefactors who have helped us over the years. As the benefits of music therapy become more widely acknowledged, the demand for our work increases. More people than ever are coming to us for help and we aim to start a Music Therapy Group for adults with neurological conditions and a Social Creative Music Club for teenagers with autism.
